Message Your comparing two completely different definitions of the same word, kind of like the word jackass.

Heres a definition for you, because you obviously dont own a dictionary.

rim (rm)
n.
1. The usually curved or circular border or edge of an object. See Synonyms at border.
2. The circular outer part of a wheel, furthest from the axle.
3. A circular metal structure around which a wheel tire is fitted.

Definition 1 refers to your example, definition 2 and 3 refer to what we were talking about.

An important word for you to note in 3 is structure. This implies that it isn't the outer part of that object, but is in fact the entire object.

Heres a picture of a piece of a mountain bike rim

You'll notice the rim is the entire outer part of the wheel, the rim is attached to the hub with spokes in this case, but an automotive wheel is no different, this was just an easier pic to find.
